Song for Friday...song for Canada

Since yesterday was Canada Day, I thought I'd bring up what I think is an iconic Canadian song by one of our greats...
I remember this song from when I was a kid and have been listening to it all these years.
Here's to lakes and cottages and hockey and snow and lacrosse and all things Canadian.

Llama land...

"hey, Gracie...do you see what I see?"
"Yeah, George...it's some of those aliens."
"lets get a closer look."
"maybe if I smile at them they'll give us a carrot..."
"I don't know. That black, furry one smells kinda suspicious to me."
"what are they saying?"
"...don't know...they aren't speaking llama."
"I'll keep my eyes on them...you stay there. I'm going to follow them down the fence line..."
"hhmmm....maybe they're not so bad...even though they are the strangest things I've ever seen."
"Lets just hope they can read, so things don't get ugly..."

"Happy Canada Day Gracie."

"Same to you George."

What lies beneath...

Lately I've been thinking a lot about two people, whom I love dearly, who have decided to separate.
Seems that there is always one voice stronger than the other...the one who 'just isn't happy'.
On my walk today I encountered this little bridge...
It got me thinking that, yes, things always have different views.
From above it is a straight road where you can see whats coming...
Upon further investigation, underneath the concrete and steel beams...
...it's a complex, richly textured and detailed scenario.
We carry so much within that is rarely seen.
Sometimes we allow others to experience this hidden dimension...
Others pass by, oblivious to the goings on...
Some keep it well concealed.
Some look deep down but jump back up for fear of this underworld.
We may swim along upstream with another and battle the currents, the low and high tides.
Or grab on to the nearest tree limb and pull ourselves to shore...seemingly to 'safety'.
Distractions, leading you up the bank to forget the one who's floating away.
Or that moment in time when you discover what lies beneath.
What it is that keeps your heart tethered to another.

All creatures great and small...

Sunday...

Today was a grey day and spent fairly quiet.
I thought of Harris and how on Sundays we would make sure to have a visit since no one was working at the lumber yard.
So we went on our usual walk, missing our 4 legged friend.
Through the back woods....
A dogs point of view...
Griffin, ever so patient while I take photos...
Huckleberries beginning to ripen...
This big old dirt pile has become a wildflower garden...
Raccoon footprints on the path....
And home again with this lovely mug...

The dog who was just happy to be....

This is Harris.
He lived as a yard dog at the lumber company down the road.
We took him with us just about everyday when we went for a walk with Griffin.
We helped him through two surgeries on his back legs.
Harris LOVED to chase bears...sometimes he'd be way off in the bush and you could hear him barking away.
He was a gentle boy and loved everyone...especially when the kids came to visit.
Harris LOVED leftovers.
Harris LOVED the snow.
He was Griffin's buddy for 5 years.
We lost Harris to cancer on Friday but all who knew him,
knew that he was the dog that was just happy to be.
 So long bud.
